George Earnest Akers, 83, of Princeton, formerly of Oakvale went to his heavenly country home, Friday, March 16, 2018. Born August 6, 1934 in Oakvale to the late George and Pearl Akers. George was a lifelong resident of the area and retired from Princeton Community Hospital as a supervisor in the pay-roll department. He had previously worked for North American/Rockwell in Princeton and was a member of the Church of Christ in Princeton. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Gary Wayne Akers; and two brothers, Oliver David “O.D.” Akers and infant brother, Larry Akers. Survivors include his wife, Jetty Lee Akers of Bluefield, WV; his first wife and mother of his children Rita Collins Shirey; children, Jeffery K. Akers and wife Carol of Colorado Springs, CO.; daughter, Valerie Diane Blanton and husband of Roanoke, VA; step-son, Carl Cameresi and wife Donna of Bluefield, VA; six grandchildren, Duane Apollard, Jason Blanton, Nyssa Rupp and husband Jared, Aaron Camerest, Cameron Blanton and Crystal Blanton; three great-grandchildren, Kevin, Jackson and Lethen; along with many nieces and nephews; three sisters Betty Hebbert of Leesburg, FL, Shirley Meadows of Rich Creek, VA, and Shelby Jean Mabry of Bland, VA. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday March 24, 2018 at the G.E. Davis Chapel of Fredeking Funeral Service in Oakvale, burial will follow at Oakvale Cemetery in Oakvale. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 12:00 Noon until the service hour. Memorial contributions can be made to Troop #1, Boy Scouts of America, C/O Bill Cooley, 149 Yarrow St. Bluefield, WV 24701. The family suggests those attending the service to dress in casual clothing.
