Obituary

Dorothy Mae Fulcher Wade, 86, formerly of Princeton WV passed away on 01/07/2023 at Roanoke Memorial with her family by her side.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Stanley Wade in May 2022; parents, Claude and Lura (Wall) Fulcher; parents-in-love, Kyle and Flora (Blankenship) Wade; sisters-in-love: Hazel Wade Pollard, Lena Wade Basham, Mildred Wade Haywood, and Aretta Wade Mitchell; brothers-in-love: Gene Wade, Warren Lee Wade, James Pollard, Cecil Mitchell, Clyde Basham, and Andy Shrewsbury; and long-time friend, Betty Jo McBride. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Cindy Harvey (Brandol) of Daleville VA; son, Steve Wade (Valerie Stilipec) of North Pole, AK; sister, Sylvia Sively (Richard) of Princeton, WV; brother-in-law, Owen Tee Wade (Mary Lou) of Dublin, VA; special nephews and nieces and their families and especially nephews Tom and Joe Bailey who she saw daily during their childhood years. Dorothy was a graduate of Oakvale High School.  Dorothy, affectionately known as “Dot” by her family and friends, was a homemaker who took her job as wife and mother seriously.  Dot devoted her life to her family and friends, and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.  She was a faithful caregiver to Walter during her later years before needing care herself.  She was a member of Glen Lyn Church of Christ and a previous member at Goodwin’s Chapel Church of Christ.  During good health, Dot loved to bowl, quilt, work ceramics, and complete arts and crafts.  She especially enjoyed her “Penny Press” Search-a-Word puzzles until her vision worsened.  Dot was quiet and reserved to most but she could be feisty and outspoken and tell you like it is or how she saw it. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving and she always enjoyed decorating, cooking and entertaining for family and friends. Dot was known for her German Chocolate cake, fried pies and meatloaf. Today is a sad day for Dorothy’s family but a happy day in Heaven as she joins Christ and other family members.  In addition, she now has a new healthy and whole body and will be free of diabetes, AFIB and macular degeneration. The family wishes to thank the staff of Roanoke Memorial Stroke Unit for their care and the staff at Our Lady of the Valley Assisted Living. To honor Dorothy’s request, she will be cremated and there will be a private graveside service in Hill’s cemetery at a later date.  Dot was adamant that she did not want a viewing and funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Glen Lyn Church of Christ Benevolent Fund, Glen Lyn VA
