Gregory Whitlow Obituary

Gregory Reed Whitlow of Kellysville, WV, was born November 17, 1945, and transitioned to his eternal heavenly destination on September 3, 2024, at 78. He was a man of unwavering faith and had a heart for people. Greg was a beloved husband, father, papaw, and friend who was deeply committed to serving Jesus and fostering personal connections with everyone he met.

Greg's journey of learning, service, and ministry began after he graduated from Oakvale High School in 1963 with perfect attendance. He furthered his education at Concord College, graduating in 1966 with a degree in math/chemistry, also with perfect attendance. His commitment to service led him to the Air Force, where he served for four years, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his military service, he began evangelizing, and this was how he met the love of his life, Judy. After this period of evangelism, Greg completed a master’s degree from the Church of God Theological Seminary in 1980.

Greg's ministry led him and Judy to churches in Hawaii, Tennessee, and various locations in West Virginia. Their 34 years of service left an indelible mark on these communities, culminating in their retirement in 2006 to his hometown of Kellysville.

In those next “retirement years,” Greg was very active in the East River Ruritan Club, served in multiple roles at Lifeline Church, preached regularly at community churches, and faithfully substitute taught in Mercer and Monroe Counties.

The outpouring of love from the people Greg has impacted is evidence of his lifelong commitment to excellence for God, his family, his friends, and his community. We are comforted by knowing we will see him again and by seeing the joy in people's faces when they tell us how Greg made their lives better.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Judy Whitlow of Kellysville, WV; his daughter, Andrea Scott (Frank) of Shelbyville, KY; his son, Micah Whitlow (Mikaela) of Scott Depot, WV; one brother, Delbert Whitlow of Kellysville, WV; two sisters Gloria Weatherly (Buster) of Kellysville, WV, Cynthia Whittaker (Jimmy) of Adairs Run, WV; four grandchildren Makenna Sparkman (Travis), Derek Scott, Bowen Huddleston, and Caraline Huddleston; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

His father, William Whitlow, and his mother, Arnetia Whitlow, preceded him in death.
