James “J.C.” Carl Sutphin

James “J.C.” Carl Sutphin, 87, of, Oakvale, died Sunday, June 2, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. Born August 23, 1936, in Oakvale. He was the son of the late James William Sutphin and Toye Willard Hill Sutphin After graduating high school JC worked in Washington DC for the FBI in their Fingerprinting division. He then went to work for Appalachian Power Glen Lyn Plant where he worked for 43 years climbing to the Team Leader position. J.C. proudly served in the United States Army National Guard. J.C. was a member of the Narrows Intermont Masonic Lodge 269 for 55 years. He was a member of the Glen Lyn Church of Christ and faithfully attended while his health permitted. J.C. was an avid lifetime farmer. In addition to his Parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Charlie, Marvin, Minnie, Everett, David, Father-in-Law Lake E. Thompson and Mother-in-Law Eula Skeens Thompson. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Dora Sutphin. Sons James E. Sutphin (Lori) and Glenn C. Sutphin (Tonya). Grandchildren Patti Furrow (Jonathan), Patrick Quinn, Kimberly Marie, Step Grandson Merritt, Great Step Grandsons, Cruz and Chase 2 Nieces Mary Ellen Johnston, and Freda McGuire his farming friend Alton Thompson, Brother-in-law Don Thompson and his many friends of the Roseberry Campground at Claytor Lake. Funeral services to celebrate the life of James “J.C” Sutphin will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 4, 2024. At Glen Lyn Church of Christ, 206 Houston Lane, Glen Lyn VA 244039, with Pastors Zach Thompson and Dan Nichols officiating. Private Graveside services will be held on Wednesday at Birchlawn Burial Park No Visitation will be held prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Serving as Pallbearers will be Alton Thompson, Billy Johnston, Jerry Johnston, Ronnie Johnson, Charles Wayne Harvey and Merritt Blankenship.
