John Kenneth Baker, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away due to health problems on February 26, 2025, in Conway, SC, at the age of 62. Born on January 30, 1963, in Alexandria, VA, John led a life marked by love, adventure, and a profound dedication to his family and community.
John's early years in Virginia were the foundation of an accomplished life. A graduate of Oakvale High School in Oakvale WV, he was an honor roll student, a member of the honor society, and recognized in "Who's Who Among American High School Students." His leadership skills shone brightly as he served as the president of his class, and his academic achievements were complemented by various awards that heralded a bright future. John furthered his education at a vocational school, mastering the craft of brick masonry.
His professional journey was as heartfelt as it was skilled. John was not only an awesome brick mason, but he also pursued his passion for arboriculture, turning it into a successful career. He found joy and peace working among the trees, often saying he saw the world best from above. John's love for fixing things was more than a hobby; it was a testament to his resourcefulness and ingenuity. He was truly a jack of all trades, always eager to lend a helping hand or breathe new life into old objects.
John's zest for life was infectious. He was a kind soul who approached every adventure with enthusiasm. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing, hunting, and simply being in the embrace of nature. His spirit was as free as the open road when he rode his motorcycle, a passion that allowed him to explore and appreciate the world from a unique perspective. John was also a family man at heart. His love for his family was immeasurable, and he instilled in them the values of kindness, adventure, and the joy of practical skills.
John's legacy is lovingly carried on by his devoted wife of 33 years, Anita Baker, and his three children: John Kenneth Baker Jr. and his wife Samantha, Erika Baker Skillen and her husband Davie, Harley Baker Pearl and her husband Zach. His grandchildren, Cassadee, Rowan, and Liam, will miss their grandfather's gentle guidance and his knack for turning every moment into a cherished memory. He is also survived by his siblings, Charles Baker and Dianna Baker Tilley, who will forever remember their brother's warm heart and adventurous spirit. John was predeceased by his mother, Birdia Etta Payne Baker, and his father, Harrison Baker, who passed away a day after him, marking a poignant moment in the Baker family history.
Throughout his life, John was a beacon of kindness, always ready with a smile and a helping hand. His adventurous soul led him to many beautiful places, but it was his handy nature that built a home filled with love, memories, and the laughter of those he held dear. John's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his spirit will continue to inspire us to embrace life with open arms and a caring heart.
John's life will be celebrated in the hearts of his loved ones and the many lives he touched. He set an example of how to live fully, love deeply, and leave the world a better place. As we bid farewell to John Kenneth Baker, we take solace in the knowledge that his journey was one of purpose, love, and boundless joy.
