Johnie Lewis Gordon, Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and soldier passed peacefully into the arms of his Loving Savior on July 20, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Johnie was born in Kellysville on May 3, 1938 to J.B. and Enna, where he grew up cracking walnuts to take care of his baby sister Mona Anne. In 1960, he married the love of his life, Peggy Ann whom he spent more than 65 years in love. Together they raised three sons into men on their home place. That farm was sacred ground to him and is where he found his peace, raising cattle and a garden. He was so very proud of his Father and Uncle’s service in World War II, in 1961 he was drafted to follow their footsteps in the United States Army where he served his country faithfully for 22 years. Over the span of his career he proudly served in Korea and throughout the United States. Johnie was a man of great faith and lived for God, Family, and Country. As proud as he was of his service and his farm, his family meant everything to him. His sons blessed him with three daughters-in-law, whom he considered daughters. In turn, they gave him one of his greatest titles being Paw Paw to 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was a lifelong member of Kellysville Church of God, where he faithfully served as an usher. By trade he was a carpenter, and was blessed with the opportunity to begin his own business “Gordon’s Construction” in 1988. Johnie was proceeded in death by his mother, father, his very special Uncle Henry Lee “Sarge” Comer, special friend and Brother-in-Law Fred Chandler, and a host of special family members and friends. Left to carry on his legacy are his Wife of 64 years, Peggy. Their three sons: Johnie, Jr. (Donna) of Bluefield, Michael Wayne (Jessica) of Hurricane, and Scottie Lee (Amber) of Kellysville. Seven grandchildren: Weston (Cathy) of Huntington, Bret (Geraldine) of Saint Albans, Evan (Tuesday) of Princeton, Byron (Courtney) of Beckley, Savana (Jacob) of Teays Valley, Jazmin (Adam) of Charleston, and Preston of Princeton. And eight Great Grandchildren: Makayla, Jaxon, Scarlette, Emmett, Piper, Aiden, Sophia, and Sebastian. Viewing services will be held on Tuesday July 23rd from 6pm-8pm and funeral services will be Wednesday July 24th at 11am at Kellysville Church of God. Burial will follow at New Zion Cemetery. In-lieu of flowers, we ask that contributions be made to St.Jude’s Research Hospital in honor of Johnie. Online condolences may be shared with the family via www.fredekingfs.com.
