Judith Dean Simpkins Compton 87 of Hunter Park, Princeton died Saturday, November 15, 2025, at her residence.
Born March 9, 1938, in Coburn, VA, Judith (Judi) was the daughter of the late Bill and Kate Sturgill Simpkins. Her family moved to Princeton in 1941, relocated to Portsmouth, Virginia during WWII then returned to Princeton in 1945. Judi attended Mercer School and graduated from Princeton High School in 1956. She attended West Virginia University, graduating in 1960. She was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority. She worked for WHIS-TV in Bluefield for 10 years hosting the daily show “Woman’s Whirl”. She married Milton (Mick) Compton and together they had 2 daughters, Janice Anne Sowder and Mary Kate Tibbs.
She was preceded in death by her husband Mick Compton in 2012, her parents, her only sister, Janice Anne Simpkins, Mother and Father in law, OD (Bus) and Mary Malcolm Compton, Sister in law, Sybil Davis Compton, Niece, Jennifer Compton, Nephew, Steve Compton, Brothers in law, Burl, Skip and Delone Compton, Sister in law, Katie Compton Prinzbach as well as several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Judi leaves behind her Sister in law Dorothea Compton, Brother in law, Don Prinzbach; Daughters Jan and Randy Sowder, Mary Kate Tibbs as well as a special family member Steve Tibbs. Grandchildren, Kristen and Anthony Gray of York SC, Katie and Aaron Green, Aaron and Malia Walkup of Bluefield, VA, Chance Sowder, Morgan and Joey Brinkley, Great Grandchildren, Wyatt Ferrell, Ella Brinkley, Karson Brinkley, Mason Gonderman, Hadley Tibbs, Harper Green, Bri Dunn, Riley Mathers, Quinn Walkup and Amirah Gray. Special Friend, JoAnna Fredeking. Judi has been a member of First Baptist Church in Princeton since 1948. She and good friend Mary Bailey taught the 4- and 5-year-old Sunday School for over 50 years. She was a member of Cheryl Gera Circle for over 50 years, served as WMU director as well as the Baptist Women’s President. Judi loved to read and was a crafter. Her greatest joys in life were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was completely devoted to her family, home, friends and her church.
Graveside services to celebrate the life of Judi Compton will be held 12 Noon on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with William S. Winfrey, II speaking. Her family will serve as pallbearers. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 10:30 AM until 11:45 AM at the First Baptist Church on Mercer Street in Princeton.
