“Where Could I Go But To The Lord”
Marvin Patterson Thompson “Slim” 83, of Moneta, VA, went to rest with the Lord on February 24, 2021. Born October 8, 1937 in Glen Lyn, VA, he was the son of the late Cecil and Pauline Thompson. Marvin was a 1956 graduate of Narrows High School. He moved to Baltimore in 1962 to become an outside electrical worker with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW Local #70) and continued for thirty-seven years before retiring in 1999. In 2014, he moved to Princeton, WV to be closer to his children. As his health declined, he moved to Moneta, VA with his daughter where he continued until his passing. He attended Maranatha Baptist Church in Princeton. He thoroughly enjoyed his love for music, his family, and The Lord. He loved to play guitar for many family and friends! In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Esther Marie Keys Robertson Thompson, and a sister, Shirley Thompson Meadows, and her husband Frank. Marvin leaves behind a daughter, Cassandra Wilkinson (Husband John) of Kolona, IA; a son Phillip Thompson (Wife Naomi) of Cleveland, TN; a daughter Lisa Abernethy (husband Brad) of Dacula, GA; a son Jeff Thompson (wife Mary) of Princeton, WV; a daughter Carol McGinn (husband Alan) of Airville, PA; a son Stephen Thompson (wife Trish) of Bastian, VA; a son Glynn Thompson (wife Angela) of Princeton, WV; a daughter Samantha Blankenship (husband Scott) of Moneta, VA; a son Will Thompson (wife Suzanne) of Princeton, WV. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren; and sister Joyce Thompson Whitlow (husband Buddy); as well as nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm Sunday, February 28, 2021 at Maranatha Baptist Church with Pastor Marvin Mills and Reverend Phillip Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakvale Cemetery. Family will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the church from 1:30pm with a service starting at 2:30pm. Due to Covid-19, those in attendance must follow social distancing guidelines and be at least six feet apart. However, family members can be seated together. Face masks Must be worn at all times.
