Michael Samuel Smith, 68 of Radford, VA passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 22 at University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville VA. Michael was born on October 15, 1956 to Glenna Pearleane Terrell Smith and the late Howard Smith Sr. He spent much of his life in Glen Lyn, VA and Kellys Tank, WV. Michael attended Oakvale High School where he excelled in basketball, although he was only 5’ 11’’ he held records for the most rebounds in a game and in a season. Michael enjoyed fishing and hunting but most of all spending time with family and friends. Following graduation he entered the construction industry. He worked for various companies and with his best friend W.C. Smith until he fell in love with asphalt paving. In 1991 Michael became disabled and moved to Radford where he continued paving and doing other work from his wheelchair, even if he was just the supervisor. During his time in Radford, he built two houses using contractors, friends, family or anyone who happened to stop by to see him, he would always find something for them to do. In addition to his mother, he is survived by two stepsons Issac Brandon (Jackie), and Ely Brandon, Sister Barberlean Romero (Faustine) of San Antonio, Texas. Brothers Jeremiah Murphy (Betsy) of Willowton, WV, Howard Smith and Terry Smith both of Radford, VA. A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Homegoing Service to celebrate the life of Michael Smith will be held on Saturday March 29, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Fredeking Funeral Service in Oakvale.
