Paul Hazelwood 93, of Elgood went to be with our Lord and Savior on March 8, 2022.
We know in our hearts that 2 Timothy 4:7 says it best for Mr. Hazelwood. "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."
Born in Elgood on January 9th, 1929 to the late Irene and Rufus Hazelwood. In addition to his parents Paul was proceeded in death by his loving wife of 60 years Bernice Billings Hazelwood, his son Michael David Hazelwood and his son Lynuel Wade Hazelwood. As well as 4 brothers, Left to cherish his memory, his devoted daughter Debra Kessler and special son n law Eddie Kessler. Five grandchildren, Jerry Kessler and wife Heather of Princeton WV, Sherri Reece and husband Ben of Princeton WV, Elisha Edgell and husband David of Princeton WV, Jessica Benedum and husband Michael of Draper Valley VA, Michael Paul Hazelwood and wife Brittany of Princeton WV. Paul was blessed with eighteen greatgrandchildren, Alex, Devin, Adam, Andrew, Andrea, Deegan, Cora, Isaac, lan, Isabella, Isaiah, Brooklynn, Mckenzie, Kaidence, Morgan, Megan, Mya and Dylan. Five great great grandchildren, Addisyn, Davis, Greyson, Bristol and Bellamy. Paul was not only devoted to his family, he was also an amazing witness to his family and friends and everyone who knew him. He pastored his church Faith Tabernacle in Elgood WV and visited many churches throughout the state during his salvation and dedication to the Lord. He was and always will be a true light to everyone who knew him. Paul was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed the great outdoors. He also took pride in gardening and canning with his wife every harvest seasoning. He was known for his well-kept and very prosperous garden and fruit trees. He always gave away just as much if not more than he had grown each year. Paul honorably served in the military, branch of the Army, from March of 1951 through December of 1952. He was a Korean War Veteran who served his country proud. It wasn't until later in his life when he began to share his memories of war with his children and grandchildren who all now have a great appreciation for his military service. Paul has told of stories of being on the front lines for 54 days in the bitter cold, eating a Christmas dinner on a blanket of snow and many more memories that are far too much for us all to comprehend. He also spoke of a bible that his mother gave him that shielded him from gunfire during the war. Paul Hazelwood lived a simple life after the military, coming home to WV to marry his sweetheart, building a family, working hard and with great integrity and most importantly living his life as the Lord intended and becoming a devout servant of the Lord and great witness to all who was willing to listen. He set the example for his family and all who knew him. His memory will be greatly treasured and carried on for many years to come through all who loved and knew him. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Paul Hazelwood will be held Friday March 11, 2022 at 2 PM from the Chapel of Fredeking Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Elgood Cemetery with Military Graveside Rite by the WV Honor Guard. Family will serve as pallbearers.
