Skylar Grace Henkes

Skylar Grace Henkes passed away wrapped in the arms of her loving parents on April 16th, 2022 at Roanoke Carilion Memorial Hospital. Skylar was born October 10th, 2018 to Brandon and Autumn Henkes. Though her time with her family was short, she touched many lives and was loved deeply by those around her. 

 

Despite her disability Skylar lived a full and happy life. Skylar enjoyed visiting her goats and chickens, going for walks around the farm, and yelling at TV show theme songs like Bluey and SpongeBob. She loved to read touchy feely books and play with her toys. She often “played in the orchestra” with her piano and drum set. She spent the majority of her days snuggling with her parents and getting her hair played with. She loved getting kisses from her mom and screaming when her dad’s beard tickled her. In fact, she would scream at the mere threat of being tickled. She was full of spunk and sass and was always sure to let everyone around her know what she was thinking. Although she never deserved any of the barriers she faced, she came at them head on with no fear. Throughout her life she was the bravest little girl anyone could ever imagine and her family couldn’t be prouder of all of the resiliency she showed. 

 

Skylar will be remembered by her parents Brandon and Autumn Henkes; her unborn brother Nash; her grandparents Karen Zitzelman Henkes, Terry and Jessica Parks, and Colin and Amy Henkes; her Aunt and Uncles Nick and Halie Henkes, Dustin Parks and Makayla Smith, Brooke Henkes and Rhealeigh Parks. Great-Grandmother Vickie Akers. 

 

A special thank you to all of the therapists and nurses who worked with and cared for Skylar throughout her journey, especially the Roanoke Memorial PICU team who worked so fervently to keep her with us. 

 

Three years of love will never be enough, our squishy girl. We hold your memory close to our hearts and look forward to seeing you again one day.  

 

Visitation will be held Thursday April 21, 2022 at Lifeline Princeton Church of God from 5-7 PM
